Are you talking recovering deleted files, then The Piriform Recuva is good. If you are just talking about a disk which is good, but the operating system does not work then simply attaching it to a working computer is probably the easiest way to access the files. A device such as the Sabrent USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive with Power Adapter is handy to do the job.
Will Recuva, can also recover deleted files cause by computer reformatting?, for example I reinstall windows and I mistakenly choose the wrong partition where windows will be installed and that partition is currently contains files and then all will be erase coz' it will be reformatted, right? so will Recuva can recover those files then ???
If you format a disk the data is gone except for possibly the very expensive forensic recovery techniques that Mike was talking about. And we're talking thousands.
tech if you installed windows over the partition had your backup files then all I can say is forget it. I tried everything on this planet when I done that years ago. Lost everything so i know how you feel. Chalk it up to experience and learn and move on.

i am not here to defend mike because he knows how to defend his self but i have notice in each of your threads that you ask the same questions over and over again just in a different format each time. i am not mad or irratated but food of thought for you if a bunch of knowledgeable people on here are basically given you the same answer to your question's shouldn't it dong to you to try it before you ask another question?

tech27, I was referring to 'data recovery' companies. They typically charge per mb / gb for recovery. A company I use in the UK charged me £340 for recovering a database for a client of mine but it was not a complete recovery. Business might use one of these companies where a database is lost and is financially detrimental for its survival. A huge recovery might run into £1000's.
In a normal home environment, the software noted above should help you to some extent, if they fail to recover then you are lost and is not worth pursuing a data recovery company.
So it depends on the size of your files and whether you have overwritten your data.
Anyway, if you did a format without saving the data first then you were asking for trouble.

There are different opinion about different type of data recovery software and you could chose the best one based on your preferences like r-tt, kernal, Stellar Phoenix etc. but their cost and efficiency may depends on the data loss situations. It should be cleared that data recovery companies have different ratings in terms of providing quality data recovery software and services.
Think the OP asked about recovering a formatted partition. Did not mention anything about installing over.

Just get everyone you can, preferably portable, then if one doesn't pick everything up, others might pick up the bits that are left. Much like antimalware s/w.

thank you germ-x i really think the OP really needs to step back and smell the roses here, i am far from purfect but i don't choose to ask the same questions over and over again it kind of like a waste of time. i am not saying that questions are not good to ask that's why everybody is here ie, the moderators the users but have some morals about how you ask questions end of discussion sorry mods won't be brought up again.

- Ok guys I know what you mean, but my point here is I would like to ask first for the opinions of others, because I know myself most members here are nice and knowledgeable as well as the moderators like vistamike and lighthouse, what I'm trying to do is ask you guys because I might mess up something when I try something on my own without knowing the effects. That is why I always ask because I wanted to learn and know what are those software's that you prefer and like so that I could tried it confidentially because I know myself that most of you are experts and know more than I. I am sorry to if I annoy you or I am a nuisance on this forum but this is my attitude and this is me as well as in personal I am really an asker I always ask questions to people that who are knowledgeable so that I could clear up things that confuses me.

Always have an external drive handy, do not try to recover the files to the drive they were on.

like i said in my first post i don't mind 'questions' because i was new here once and probably drove Mike, LH, Rick and Whs to drinking a quart after meeting me :) :) my point is this when you have one topic that you want to know about let the replies come in before switching up the questions that you have already asked about. it won't make the replies come in any faster than they do now which is pretty fast. i will try to lend a hand on the topics that i know about. hope this clarifies everything. Anyone can't say about which data recovery product(s) is best and can be effective enough to recover data. One of the easiest way that i ever come across is to first download the demo version and then test it by scanning the drive. If it shows the deleted or formatted files that you desperately searching for, only then you can opt to have that software and could ensure yourself that this software might works successfully.
